FAQ's | Liposuction
What Happens During Surgery?
There are different types of liposuction, namely Tumescent Liposuction, Super-Wet Liposuction and Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction. At consultation, each procedure will be explained to you and the technique most suited for your condition will be recommended. Tiny incisions are made in the areas to be treated to allow insertion of a cannula (the instrument used to extract the fact cells).
The operation is carried out under local anesthetic and sedation, or general anesthetic. The surgery takes about 1-3 hours.
What Happens After Surgery?
You will be provided with two compression garments which you should wear continuously for the first 1-2 weeks and for a further 2-4 weeks during the day only. Although it is not necessary for complete bed rest, you should take it easy for the first 48 hours.
There will be some manageable pain, and discomfort and some bruising. You will be given medication to reduce this discomfort which will subside over the first week or two.
Depending on your occupation, you may return to work between 5 – 7 days after surgery. You can resume normal activities within 1-2 weeks but should refrain from any strenuous exercise for 6 weeks.
