New Plastic Surgery Trends in the Last Year

Plastic surgery trends come and go, depending on the beauty norms of the time. While procedures like breast augmentation and facelifts may come to mind when we think of plastic surgery trends, these days there are many other procedures that may not necessarily cross your mind when thinking about plastic surgery trends. That’s not to say that breast augmentation and facelifts aren’t popular though. In fact, facelifts are the fifth most common cosmetic procedure performed, with breast augmentation taking the number one spot. Other popular procedures unsurprisingly include liposuction, eyelid surgery and nose reshaping.

One of the more surprising plastic surgery trends is that now more than ever people are choosing to use their own fat to achieve their aesthetic goals. During such procedures, surgeons harvest the fat from unwanted places on the patient’s body using liposuction and then relocate it to other areas of the body like the breasts, buttocks and face. Because the patients own fat is used, there is less risk of the body rejecting the implant and the results typically last longer than synthetic fillers. In 2016 more people used their own fat for breast and butt augmentation than synthetic implants.

Another one of the newest plastic surgery trends is injection-based operations. Similar to the rise in the use of fat, injection based procedures use freeze fat technology and inject fat into fat pockets, under the chin of example. This is a minimally invasive alternative used to target sagging areas and tighten the skin.

In fact, looking at the overall data, minimally invasive procedures and techniques are now more popular than ever when it comes to plastic surgery trends at present. The most popular minimally invasive procedure is Botox, with soft tissue fillers, laser hair removal, chemical peels and microdermabrasion making the top five list too.

As the quest for perfection and the pressure to fulfil societies beauty norms increases, so does the number of people who get plastic surgery. As such, cosmetic surgery is a norm in society and people are looking at a multitude of different body parts and beauty issues to be corrected with medical intervention. One such example can be seen in the alarming increase in the number of women choosing to have labiaplasty. Labiaplasty involves the rejuvenation of the labia through excision, lifting, or by injecting fat or filler into the area. This is the first time that labiaplasty has been considered among the new plastic surgery trends. In 2016 labiaplasty saw a thirty nine percent increase in America, showing just how much more popular the procedure is.

While they don’t make the list if the most popular plastic surgery trends, there are also more unusual procedures that are becoming ever more popular. One such procedure is freckle tattoos. More and more people are having freckles tattooed to their faces to achieve a natural sun kissed look. Many people have drawn freckles on with makeup, until now that they can be tattooed with a natural result. Whatever the procedure, the most important thing is to make sure that if you choose to have cosmetic surgery, you are doing so for yourself and not because it’s trendy or to attain someone else’s idea of what would make you more beautiful.
